UFCW Local 222
A Message From your Union President

UFCW Local 222 is an affiliate of the United Food and Commercial Workers International union, which represents over 1.3 million members nationwide.

For all who work, we believe that your labor should be rewarded with wages and benefits that will support you and those who depend on you. To accomplish that goal, we must exercise that power that we each have by combining is as a union. If you have worked for a non-union employer in the past, you will easily see the difference that Local 222 makes in protecting your rights as an employee. In a non-union workplace you have little or no voice. In contrast, every condition in your Union contract was negotiated and approved by your co workers.

When we are active and fully participate, we become even more powerful. When we work together as a union, we are a mighty force. It is our hope that you have long and rewarding association with UFCW local 222. We encourage all members of Local 222 to be active in your union. We invite you to attend and participate in all membership meetings. You have ability to shape your future of Local 222.

Please feel free to call us at 712-276-8510 for advice and assistance. We work for you, because you are the Union.

Sincerely,
Leo Kanne President Local 222

A Message from your Secretary & Treasurer

My name is Jaylee Hurst and I will be your UFCW representative for all MercyOne nurses. I graduated from a local nursing program here in Sioux City in 2015. I began my nursing career in the Operating Room at UnityPoint Health, and then I was able to begin working full time at MercyOne in the ICU until May of 2020. I enjoyed aspects from both departments and it helped me understand the inner workings of each of the areas. Each specialty gave me great experience and I absolutely enjoyed my patients as well as my coworkers.

When I made the decision to become a full time employee at MercyOne I knew that I wanted to be apart of the union. I was fortunate enough to not personally experience being mistreated by my facility, but I had seen it happen. I signed up as soon as the application was in front of me because I knew the benefits that union support offered. During our contract negotiations in 2019-2020 I became heavily involved, and couldn't have been more proud of all the nurses as we stood together to obtain a fair contract. It took a lot of time, and a lot of effort but I do believe it was well worth it in the end. We were able to have a vast majority of union support within the staff and it showed.

I consider myself very fortunate to have been invited into this position, and want you to know that anytime I can be a voice for you or just help amplify yours please reach out. My phone number is (712) 281-9770 please feel free to call or shoot me a text at anytime. I am aware of how difficult shift work can be, so I will do my best to make it as convenient as possible.
