UFCW Local 222 is an affiliate of the United Food and Commercial Workers International union, which
represents over 1.3 million members nationwide.

My name is Jaylee Hurst and I will be your UFCW representative for all MercyOne nurses. I graduated
from a local nursing program here in Sioux City in 2015. I began my nursing career in the Operating
Room at UnityPoint Health, and then I was able to begin working full time at MercyOne in the ICU until
May of 2020. I enjoyed aspects from both departments and it helped me understand the inner workings
of each of the areas. Each specialty gave me great experience and I absolutely enjoyed my patients
as well as my coworkers.
When I made the decision to become a full time employee at MercyOne I knew that I wanted to be apart
of the union. I was fortunate enough to not personally experience being mistreated by my facility,
but I had seen it happen. I signed up as soon as the application was in front of me because I knew
the benefits that union support offered. During our contract negotiations in 2019-2020 I became
heavily involved, and couldn't have been more proud of all the nurses as we stood together to obtain
a fair contract. It took a lot of time, and a lot of effort but I do believe it was well worth it
in the end. We were able to have a vast majority of union support within the staff and it showed.
