As you know, on Thursday, August 24, 2023, the members of UFCW Local Nos. 222 and 293 voted in favor of a merger.
The merger between these two local unions will bring greater bargaining strength and organizing resources to the
membership and has been overwhelmingly approved by the respective local unions’ members.
Following the vote on the merger, we submitted the merger document to the International Union and were notified
that the name of the newly merged local union must be changed from UFCW Local No. 222 to UFCW Local No. 222IN to
reflect that a new local union was created. The new name—UFCW Local No. 222IN—acknowledges that the newly formed
local union covers the states of Iowa and Nebraska. An amended version of the Merger Agreement, which is identical
to the version adopted by the membership, but reflects the new name, has since been voted on and approved by the
former local union executive boards.
If you have any objection to the modification to the name from UFCW Local No. 222 to UFCW Local No. 222IN please
notify me no later than fifteen (15) days from the date of this letter. Objections must be filed either
electronically to local222office@gmail.com or mailed to 3038 South Lakeport Road, Sioux City, IA, 51106,
attention Leo J. Kane. If there are no objections to amending the name, the merger agreement will be submitted
to the International Union for its final approval, effective retroactively to September 1, 2023.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
